Quiz! Book Cover Close-ups

Inspired by Dewey of The Hidden Side of a Leaf, I've created a book cover quiz. These are close-ups of the covers of four books from my to-be-read stack. Can you guess the titles and authors? Guess just one or guess them all if you dare. (Follow the link to Dewey's site to find more book cover quizzes. Some of them may even have prizes! (This one may even have prizes, who knows?)

Without further ado, here is cover #1: I actually read this one already. It was in my to-be-returned-to-the-library pile, which is sometimes the same as my to-be-read pile. But since I haven't gotten around to reviewing it, the fact that I read it shouldn't matter. This book came out almost exactly one year ago, to much acclaim. The author had published several novels and collections of short stories and poems, but this was a new genre for him.

Cover #2 is from an book that was recommended to me when I asked for suggestions here on Worducopia. The title was inspired by the writing on the side of a vehicle which the Pulitzer-prize-winning author noticed while eating at a restaurant one day, and is actually the name of a church.

Cover #3 is from a debut novel that was published this summer. It's on my stack because my parents sent me a review of it. Like every other coming-of-age story in the modern world, this one has been compared to The Catcher in the Rye--but it seems that in this case, the author actually intended as much. (You can see the left edge of the cover and my table, because I'm not a very good photographer and I didn't align the book properly in the frame).

And cover #4: I'm torn between wanting to quickly finish this debut novel so I can write up the review before its September 2nd release, and needing to savor every word. Pablo Picasso, who created a painting that shares its title with the book, makes an appearance.

So, there they are. Guesses can be put in comments anytime between now and Monday night. Good luck!

  7. Good job, Book Zombie and Karen! (Karen's one of two people who recommended that book to me, so it's fitting that she guessed it).
