Snapshot: Blue Heron

My older son and I went for a walk next to the Columbia River a couple of weeks ago. I thought I'd take a lot of pictures, but we were so deep in conversation that I didn't want to interrupt ourselves. The only thing I ended up stopping for was this great blue heron.

What I'm reading: Carl Hiassen's Flush, with Evan. For myself, I'm between novels right now. I'm deciding between Ursula Le Guin's Lavinia, for my April book club, and a couple of books I got for review from publicists.
What I'm watching: Just finishing the movie Chronicle. The first half was humorous, then it got all weird and melodramatic. Now we're watching Portlandia on Netflix. It's always fun to see the familiar locations and I've got to tell you non-locals who watch the show: Star Trek in the Park? It's totally a real thing here.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by At Home With Books. To participate, post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member, and add your link.

  3. So pretty! We used to see those flying frequently where I grew up, since we weren't far from the coast.

    Here's my SATURDAY SNAPSHOT post.

  4. Love the photo! Would have loved it even without the heron. Though I do adore herons, and am happy as can be every time I see one out in the backyard swamp.

And I agree--so fun to see familiar places in movies. Or read about them in books.

  7. Very pretty, looks like he's trying to imitate his surroundings. I love it when these visit the pond in my backyard.

  8. Beautiful photo. And you're so right... having a conversation with your son is more important than snapshots. I can appreciate that. ;)

  13. It's a lovely picture - are blue herons common there? No Snapshot from me this week, because I only got back from Mum's yesterday, but I like to see what everyone is doing!
