The Danger of a Memorable Cover

I was telling my husband about The Book Lady's Blog's report on David Sedaris' recent reading in her city--which was by all accounts amazing and had me ready to buy tickets until I found out it's on Halloween in my city--and he asked me what the name of Sedaris's latest book was.

Me: "Um....It's, uh....Skeleton something.
Or...Burning Skeletons?
The Skeletons Burn Up?
Or maybe it just has a skeleton on the cover. Hold on a sec...."

Oh. When You Are Engulfed in Flames. Nothing about a skeleton. Just a picture of one.

  1. I downloaded this audio book from the library, but haven't listened to it yet. Some actress in People magazine said she read it on an airplane and felt sure the woman next to her thought she was nutters, because of the frequent belly-laughing laughter.

  2. Thanks for the shout-out! Sedaris is awesome on audio, but I don't recommend listening to him while you're driving or drinking hot liquids (or both).

  3. I find myself in the bookstore trying to scan the shelves looking for a particular cover because I can't remember the title or author. It's such a bummer when they're all shelved spines-out, I can really get lost in there (I think I should start writing stuff down somewhere).
